Job Description

SF-based Bureau of Jewish Education is looking for a part-time development associate. The Bureau of Jewish Education creates vibrant, effective, and engaging Jewish learning throughout the San Francisco Bay Area Jewish community.

It is our mission to build capacity among lay leaders and professional educators enabling them to create and maintain a system of excellent Jewish education in synagogues, day schools, early childhood programs, and informal educational settings. BJE collaborates with visionary funders, agency partners, and community leaders to serve our thriving community of thousand of students, families, and educators.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Campaign Support
    • Assist with and support all phases of fundraising activities for annual campaign fundraising
    • Process gifts and their acknowledgments/notifications
    • Conduct prospect research
    • Ability to customize correspondence for leadership gift donors and other special purposes
    • Deal with donor queries and concerns, in conjunction with Director of Development
    • Assist in organizing donor cultivation events
  • Database Management
    • Manage, enter data, track and generate reports using donor database system of 5,000+ contacts
    • Assist in implementation of new database software and online giving capability
  • Administrative Support
    • Assist in coordinating grant calendar, writing, research and final proposals
    • Manage filing system
    • Prepare expense reports
    • Streamline systems where appropriate
    • Attend meetings with Development Director to take notes, type up minutes, set up/clean up rooms
    • General support for the Development Director

The Development Associate will function as a member of a team by accepting additional responsibilities and assisting others as needed, including back up reception as a part of the Administration Team, staffing BJE committees and participating in professional task forces. The Development Associate reports to the Director of Development.

Required Experience, Skills and Abilities:

The successful candidate will have the following skills:

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in word processing programs (Microsoft programs) and mail merges
  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Familiarity with use of Outlook for managing contacts, e-mail lists and calendars

In addition, a qualified candidate should have:

  • Good judgment and high energy, with the ability to take initiative and work independently when needed
  • The capability to work with minimum supervision
  • The ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and demonstrated ability to coordinate a number of projects requiring close timeline management
  • Proficiency with donor database software
  • Exceptional organizational and prioritization skills

This is an excellent entry point for someone interested in a career in fundraising. This position is part time, at 32 hours a week, working 4-5 days a week and includes full health, dental, life insurance and 403b benefits.
